Company Overview

●Our company was founded through a joint investment between Tohoku Electric Power, Tokyo Electric Power, and a coal mining company in the Joban area to use the low-grade coal of the Joban coal fields in thermal power generation. We own a thermal power plant in Iwaki City and sell electricity to both Tohoku and Tokyo power companies. As an intermediate-load power plant, our facilities are capable of flexibly responding to changes in demand.
●With our location adjacent to residential areas, we have adopted highly reliable environmental protection technologies, installing comprehensive flue gas denitrification and desulfurization equipment on units 8 and 9 to prevent air pollution. We have also implemented extensive measures to prevent water pollution, noise, and vibrations for these same reasons.
●For many years we have conducted All-Clean efforts and carried out CSR activities. We have also equipped exhaust tower units 8 and 9 with lights (known as the Nakoso Yume Lights) to brighten the town
and the hearts of its people.

Company Strengths & Characteristics

●We have conducted pilot plant tests for Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) technology and operational tests using demonstration units from Clean Coal Power R&D in an effort to explore high-efficiency, environmentally friendly coal gasification, and in 2013, our company took over these facilities and began operating them as a commercial unit (Unit 10). While Unit 10 was decommissioned in 2020, from 2021 we have utilized the expertise we acquired to begin operating and maintaining a 500,000 kW-class
IGCC facility adjacent to the Nakoso Power Station.

Future Prospects & Areas of Interest

●At present we conduct coal, wood biomass (wood pellets), and carbonized fuel co-firing power generation.
●We hope to further expand our use of renewable energy and improve our coal use efficiency.
