About Iwaki City

Iwaki City is located in southeast Fukushima. It is a regional hub home to a lush natural environment, a mild climate, and the early roots of hula dancing in Japan.
Home to the renowned Spa Resort Hawaiians, featured in the film Hula Girls, as well as J2 League club Iwaki FC, the historic Iwaki Yumoto Onsen (one of Japan’s three oldest hot springs), and the Aquamarine Fukushima aquarium in the Onahama Port area, Iwaki City boasts a thriving tourism industry which thrives on its rich local resources.
The city supports a diverse range of other industries as well, including agriculture, forestry, and fisheries. As one of eastern Japan’s leading industrial hubs, Iwaki is well-connected by key infrastructure such as the important international trade port of Onahama, and the Joban Expressway, ensuring seamless transportation and logistics.
The area has also accumulated the major industries involved in the Fukushima Innovation Coast Framework’s robots & drones, energy, environment and recycling, and medical initiatives. The city is committed to employing its diverse industrial base to further the goals of the Fukushima Innovation Coast Framework and support Fukushima’s reconstruction and continued industrial development.
Through strengthened collaboration with the Fukushima Institute for Research, Education and Innovation (F-REI), an institution which strives to be a world-renowned central institute for creative reconstruction, the city aims to create attractive work environments where young people and women from inside and out of the region play an active role, through innovations which bring industry, academia, and government together.
